The calculator gives you a starting point. It's your fit and comfort that determines the size you need. I can't explain the breathing problems, but a floating gore is a sign of an ill fit. If you're in the right size but the wrong shape that will happen. Also, if you're in the wrong shape it can cause your band to feel tighter than it actually is.
Please, fellow ABraThatFits enthusiasts, don't hate me, but my favorite bra is my VS Perfect Coverage bra. It covers way more of my breast than I'm used to (thanks to this subreddit and helping me find my correct size) but I've never felt another comfortable bra from Victoria's Secret like this one. All the other ones blow.

The band is stretchier, its wires are a bit wider and have more give, the gore is shorter and the cups are closer together than the Panache Envy, which was recced by another member. If you decide to try the Envy, a well-made, lovely bra, I would also get the 40 back in E and F cups.
