Linux Mint is more "user friendly" in the sense that you will have easier access to Nvidia drivers and have to do less technical config out of the box. Their Cinnamon desktop is great, and the distro is stable and solid. The downside is that stability comes at the cost of default access to recent software.

LMDE is based on Debian Stable, only comes in Cinnamon, and Cinnamon is basically rolling. Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu LTS (which was mostly cut from a freeze of Debian Unstable when created) with semi-anual point releases, and comes in Cinnamon/Mate/XFCE. Both use flatpak, which is how you'd have contemporary software in either case.
