The bad news is the core with windings is in resin enclosure ! this is just the thermal fuse inside the coils who is open . This thermal fuse is there to preserve to power ... The Pioneer SX-X50 series has a much different sound then the SX-X80 series (and similar vintage amps), and the older series seems to work best with similar vintage speakers IMHO.
